Factors that Affect the Headstone Cost
To accurately check the price of the headstone, you need to consider the following factors;
What headstone types and colors do you wish to have?
Generally, headstone makers can create various types of headstones. Keep in mind that these headstones vary in price which can affect your budget. A memorial headstone should be chosen among the stones that are available in Slovenia.
Here are some of the stone colours which most of Slovenian headstone makers are offering:
If a decoration is chosen, then it should be executed in the best manner possible to express a certain sentiment.
What will be the headstone size?
Similar to what we have with headstone types, they also come in various sizes which can significantly affect their cost. Keep in mind, that the larger the headstone is, the larger the stone will need to be which can lead you to higher expenses.
There are some design types that can be used as headstones without bringing any additional cost. Whether you’re looking to purchase a traditional headstone, as most Slovenian headstones are made from granite ( only a few headstone makers will offer you the marble stone) there are lots of designs to choose from.
The most common headstones available in Slovenia are:
– A single headstone ( 1 meter wide, 2 meters long)
– A double headstone ( 2 meters wide, 2 meters long)
– An urn headstone ( 1 meter wide and 1 meter long)
How will the headstone polishing affect the price?
The type of finish for the headstone may affect the cost as well.
The headstone’s polished finish might give it a glossy, high-end look, this will cost more compared to a rock sawn or a pitched finish. These finishes look more like natural stone, being cheaper, however, the polished headstone will be cheaper to maintain in the long run compared to an unpolished finish which might crack.
What grade will the granite be?
Most of the time, customers across Slovenia prefer having granite as it is known as one of the hardest stones and this is also advisable for our often harsh weather. This stone comes in different colors, types, and grades.
When talking about the “grade”, it defines the specification of the granite through hardness, structural integrity, toughness, strength, finishing, suitability, and how it will be carved. The quality of a stone is measured in terms of its natural size, color, and transparency. While each type has its own “bursting” qualities, the best stones have millions of diamond points that look like a black hole.
Most monument makers prefer having a high-quality grade as they look better and it is long-lasting. Nowadays, makers have means of looking at high-grade granites that come in different colours that can surely fit your preferences.
What are the designs, specifications, and encryptions you wish to put?
Keep in mind that before planning or choosing a headstone, you need first to check with your cemetery the rules and regulations on headstones primarily. Usually, they have a restriction of types and measurements which you need to comply with.
In addition to the standard tombstones, the headstone makers are also offering unique headstones named “ The Sculpture headstones “.
Those designed pieces of art are often separate statues or sculpted as part of the headstone which comes in different shapes, such as a sculptured heart, cross, angel, etc.
Materials such as vases, in addition to the gravestone’s specifics, contribute to the cost of the gravestone, which adds to the sum of all the work and materials needed to create it. Those accessories are not necessary for each gravestone unless chosen, those items will make an efficient addition to the grave since fresh flowers can be placed on it.

How the Headstone Engraving will affect the cost?
After the headstone stone is chosen, the engraving should be the next factor to consider. You might want to engrave the loved one’s name and the date they were born and the date of death. There is a cost for headstone engraving which depends on the complexity of the lettering and the fonts. Most headstone makers calculate the price of the first 20 to 30 letters, however, they will charge an additional fee per letter for more.
An inscription or artistic details like religious symbols, and flowers will increase the headstone cost.
